#29 : Nuvvula Podi ~ Spiced Sesame powder

Sesame seeds are high in calcium and have fibers that can lower the cholesterol level. In Ayurveda, sesame oil is used as a base in detox treatments like Panchakarma and is extensively used in preparation of medicines and mixtures. This spice powder requires only a few ingredients and can be done in under 15mins. Mix this up with hot rice and a dollop of ghee and it makes a perfect quick meal for the busy days.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Sesame seeds
  • 10-12 Dried Red Chillies
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • Salt to Taste
Method:
  1. Dry roast Sesame seeds and red chillies for 7-8 min on medium heat until they turn lightly golden
  2. Add asafoetida to the toasted sesame seeds-red chillies, remove from heat and let it cool completely
  3. Transfer the above contents to a blender, add salt and grind to a fine powder
  4. Serve with hot rice and a dollop of Ghee  :-)
  5. Can me stored in an air tight container for 3 months
